Crude oil distillation generally includes atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation two parts. Atmospheric distillation of crude oil, that is, distillation of crude oil at atmospheric pressure (or slightly higher than atmospheric pressure), the distillation equipment used is called atmospheric distillation tower.

In order to promote the heavy oil in the crude oil at a lower temperature boiling, vaporization, in addition to the use of vacuum distillation, but also in the distillation process, to the crude oil to be distilled through high temperature water vapor, which is called stripping. Stripping reduces the partial pressure of oil and gas, and has the same effect as reducing pressure, and it is easier to operate, so it has been widely used in crude oil distillation process.
